THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE

10/29/2014

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR when we like to count our blessings. One of the things I'm thankful for is my crazy, fun, supportive family. (Here I am at one of my book signings, surprised by my goofy big brother Ben, who loves to crash the party in silly costumes). How about you? What are you thankful for? Share with us. And the day before Thanksgiving we'll pick one lucky winner to receive a packet of Sheila Christmas books.

I am thankful for my wonderful husband who has survived a major heart attack. I am thankful for my 3 sons who have all served in the Military for protecting our freedom and coming home safe. I am thankful for my 2 wonderful and beautiful daughter-in-laws and for a terrific grandson.

I am thankful for my children and grandchildren. I am thankful that God has given me the strength to not be bitter and take 1 day at a time( my husband of 34 1/2 years decided our marriage was over and left -telling me he was going to a gun show . Telling me in a note that he was gone). At this point in time, I have come to the conclusion that for my good I must wish the best for him. Hope for the best for me and live . I count my blessings which are many and hold that thought in my heart and soul.

I'm thankful for each and every day, being able to call or text our children who are grown and living on their own (out of state). Just knowing they're doing ok gives me comfort. I'm looking forward to us all being together this Thanksgiving. I appreciate how your brother is there for you, with comedy and love. Happy November, Thanksgiving!

Glad you are on the other side of the chemo & hope you continue to heal. I have something to be thankful for this week, actually. My transmission went & I went to an honest transmission mechanic who told me to check with the dealer to see if there was an extended warrenty for the transmission. There was one that went to 120,000 miles. My car had 119,300 miles. I got a new transmission for free, just under the wire!

I am thankful for the many memories that I have of my youngest son, Todd. The holidays are always hard for me. Todd died in a house fire while attending Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. in 2003. Those memories have helped me get thru each day. Also, the closeness with my other children, the continued support of friends and family (they continue to be there for us) have helped our whole family get thru our grief of missing Todd. He was a wonderful son and missed dearly.

Simple pleasures. I am most grateful for all of life's simple pleasures - warm blankets on a cold evening, hanging out with my unique family, tasty food when I am hungry, friends to share the fun of good times and the pain of bad times, and at the end of the day a nice shower, clean jammies, warm hugs and prayers of thanks to God for all of these blessings.

I am feeling grateful for having another year of life and being with my husband of almost 51 years as of Nov. 28th. Our plans for this year were to be going on an 5 island cruise to celebrate our anniversary, as last year we didn't get to go as we had planned, and again this year health issues have forced us to stay on dry land and at home. But I am grateful that our daughter and her husband and our three grandchildren will still be able to go on the cruise and that they will come back with wonderful memories and stories for us to hear and smile about and lots of photos to see. I am grateful for every day that I can tolerate pain and that I am able to continue to be hopeful for some kind of recovery even if not complete, but better than currently. I am so grateful to my husband and our children, my son in law and our three precious grandchildren, my sister in law, and other friends who make my life worth living. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

Hi Sheila! Thank you for this contest!! I am Canadian so of course I have already celebrated my Thanksgiving, but since it is something that I am thankful every single day, I wanted to share with you as well. long story sorta short - Summer of 2011 I got really sick with c-difficile, my colon almost ruptured. THANKFULLY I did not have to have surgery but that was because they weren't sure I would survive the surgery, I was THAT sick! I found that part out a few months after I was released from my one full month hospital stay. I have never fully recovered from it and I have a lot of internal damage and internal scaring. I am THANKFUL that I was still living with my parents (even though I was 38 at the time), THANKFUL that they are my best friends (my poor Dad sure learnt a LOT about his daughter that I am pretty sure he never wanted to know! LOL) and THANKFUL that they are younger and healthy enough that they are able to take care of me, and in a weird way, I am also THANKFUL that I am single with no kids. I would not be able to raise them, since I need some help all the time. I joke that here they are getting ready to retire and here they are re-raising their now 41 yr old like she is about 8! I have been on disability ever since and unless something changes, I will always be on disability. I cannot do anything that puts pressure on my gut, like sitting, bending, lifting, carrying, etc. I am on a lot of pain meds that really zap my brain levels, so I haven't been driving, cooking, working, I have to watch what I wear, what I do, etc.etc. I do also now have ulcerative colitis, so combined with the internal colon damage I really have to watch what I eat, when, how much, eating with doing anything active like drs appts. etc. I need to be close by a bathroom at all times, etc.etc.etc. so all in all - I am very THANKFUL that I am here to tell my story, I am THANKFUL I did not have surgery, I am THANKFUL for the condition that I am in, since it very easily could be a LOT worse! I am SUPER THANKFUL for my parents, and also VERY THANKFUL that I have an awesome sheltie (Piper) that has helped me so much just by loving me! :)

I'm thankful for my silly adult children, at our Thanksgiving dinner, how we can ALL cut it up with jokes, tricks, and lots of laughs! But, we know when it's time to be serious, but then all of a sudden, one of us, you never know which one of us, will break that seriousness, with a comical reply, or imitating an actor/actress! Then, the laughs start all over again! (Of course, after everyone looks around the room to see who will break the ice/seriousness with a laugh!) Love making these memories with the ones you truly love and are truly thankful for!

I am very grateful for my family who has been there for me all the time, but especially since I have had my serious medical problems as of this past February. Without my husband doing all of the grocery shopping and 95% of meal preparation, the laundry, the housework, etc nothing would have gotten done.. My husband also does all of my wound care, my bandages and lifts my mobility scooter in and out of the SUV to all of my hospital and doctor appointments and there are many of them too; I could not live without this care. I am so grateful to my daughter for doing my extra type of shopping, errands and supplying me with my beautiful grandkids to keep my mind off the pain and most of all for the compassion and the time spent with me getting me through this medical situation. I would not be here to tell you how grateful I am if it were not for these two special people in my life. I am also grateful to my doctors for trying to find a cure for me and to all of the nurses at the hospital who were so understanding of my unusual problem which there seems to have no good results but they keep on trying to help. I am grateful that two antibiotics were finally found that I didn't have a horrible reaction to and were able to get through a few crisis especially since June when I was rushed into the hospital not knowing what to expect. I am grateful for authors who have written so many wonderful books for me to read while being confined to bed or a recliner for 22-23 hours a day and have been for ten months so far. I am hoping to do all of the book reviews for each book that I have read when I am finally able to sit at the computer for more than ten minutes at a time. I could go on and on but I am sure you now know that I am grateful for my life and those around me. And I have never forgotten the ordeal that you have been through either, and I hope that you have been given a clean bill of health Sheila. Thank you so much. Cynthia .

I'm thankful for my family, friends, being a cancer survivor, being able to walk, see, hear, use my arms, smell (especially coffee) and have a roof over my head and clothes on my back.

I'm thankful for each of the 41 years I've been teaching, and for all of the wonderful blessings and opportunities to be a part of educating so many children, including my 6 grandchildren who attend or have attended my school.

I'm so grateful for having my parents close by and for getting a job again. It's tough out there. I'm thankful for my health and that I can lead a very healthy lifestyle.

Thankful that my dad is cancer free after he was given very slim odds of survival.

Although this year has been difficult, as we lost mom just a few days after the ringing in of the New Year, I give thanks for the wonderful memories. Even though the pain from losing her is great, I am thankful just knowing that I was blessed with a mother who was there for me, and loved me unconditionally.

I am thankful for my wonderful husband—who loves me, and makes me feel like a princess, even when I’m not at my best (ie. my hair looks like a hornet’s nest, dressed in my favorite, but less-than-appealing pajamas, or my hands are elbow deep in dirty, sudsy dishwasher). Also, I am thankful for the comforts of a warm home. And of course, for our precious, little “fur babies” (even though they love to wake us up at all hours of the morning…sometimes pouncing on our feet, and yes, even slamming doors, to get our attention).

Also, I am thankful for the kindness of strangers that has continued to amaze me. I feel they must have been sent from heaven to help guide me during this challenging time, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thankful.............something I have reflected on this year. Besides family, friends and things like that , I have come to truly appreciate and be thankful for nature. The seasons, watching animals, insects, flowers, birds, clouds, the colors of everything..........the mystery of the ocean, peacefulness at the beach, the quietness of our cabin in the middle of the woods, listening to rain, snow blanketing our neighborhood, feeling sunshine on my face.........every day is new, every day has wonder......that is what I am thankful for.

I'm thankful everyday for my wonderful family and friends. For my home, my job and food in frig. I'm trying harder to take less for granted and be thankful everyday. I'm very thankful and blessed with two wonderful sons.

I am most thankful my family is back under one roof and is working on healing from the destruction of the last year.
I'm thankful my mom is cancer free and I get to keep my best friend awhile longer.
I am thankful I have a family that loves me as much as they do and when it gets tough they circle the wagons and help you in ways you didn't imagine they could.
I am thankful I get one more day to mold, encourage and love the daughters I am blessed with. God willing I will have many more.
I am thankful for my Dad and the love and encouragement he has given me my whole life.
I am thankful for my husband of 15 yrs and the love he has for me. I truly do hope there are many more years with him
I am thankful for my little brother who is always there supporting me in all that life tosses my way.
I am thankful for my God being who he is and loving Me despite everything I do and have done and he is always there to get me to the other side of my troubles, big or small.

I'm thankful for the 10 wonderful years I had with my Miniature Schnauzer, Maggie, before we had to put her down this week. I'm thankful my father isn't suffering anymore.
