4/29/2011

Picture
In honor of Mother's Day, we're going have a little fun. Share with us your favorite "mommyism", that profound bit of truth (or fabrication) your mother told you when you were growing up. (Maybe you're even saying it to your kids!) We'll pick a winner and someone will get this fun cupcake-shaped bath bomb that Sheila picked up when she was enjoying her girls weekend in Portland last month.Contest will run May 1st through the 7th and we'll announce our winner on Mother's Day.

Looking forward to reading those pearls of mommy wisdom!

Back in the day when clothes were hung outside to dry, and some of them had to be ironed (gasp) I called my mom and asked if she would drop off one of my sisters to entertain my 4 kids long enough so that I could catch up on my ironing. My laundry basket was overflowing with ironing that need to be done, and hearing that, she gave me this tidbit of wisdom....get another laundry basket! Gotta love a mom who tells you that!

My mother's standard line whenever I left the house or faced some sort of challenge was "Remember who you are." Encompassed in those four words were our family values, what I learned at church, what I respected about my grandparents, the lessons of my ancestors, my Southern heritage, and, most importantly, my intelligence and sense of self-worth. It's not surprising I say the same to my two kids!

My mother always said "Do it yourself because no one else will do it for You"
Needless to say, a lot of stuff didn't get done becasue I wouldn't do it.
I think I passed that on to my kids too.

My mom always said to remember to wear clean underwear because you never know what will happen....then one day in grade school I was knocked down and you guessed it...my dress flew up....I was embarrassed but hey...I had on my clean undies.

"This too shall pass"
Mom said this...a lot! "This too shall pass"....cherish the moments of little ones snuggling...as well as grit your teeth, you'll get through this traffic jam. Kinda fits every occasion!

When I was young, my mama always reminded me to focus on my studies."Study hard, try your very best and pray to God to finish your studies for you to be able to fulfill your dreams."
This has guided me through life to be always appreciative of everything that comes and see events positively , may it be a blessing or a "blessing in disguise", God has a purpose
