4/25/2012

This month, as we honor our mothers, we'd love to know how you are honoring your mom. Share briefly with us here and you may win our fun "book package", a copy of "Love in Bloom" along with a cocktail recipe book and a fun little notebook to carry in your purse. Contest ends May 11th and we'll announce a winner on Mother's Day. Happy Mom's Day to all of you!

We don't go all out, but we'll go to church as a family and then take my mom out to a restaurant of her choice. Mostly we just hang out and enjoy the family that God blessed us with and the mom who has been such a huge part in shaping who we are as a family.

We talk a lot about celebrating our mothers on Mother's Day and that is wonderful! But I have started celebrating my daughter and daughter-in-law's being wonderful mothers as well! I think a lot of us can remember how hard it could be. I know I do! Since I live overseas, (which disqualifies me for the contest...I just wanted to leave a comment anyway) being with my girls is hard. So, I call or write a special card or try to find something nice online to say how much I love and appreciate them and all that they do. How about other special women in our lives that are moms? What a great day to remember all of the moms we love!

My mother has been gone for 16 years now, but I will be praying for the repose of her soul on Mother's Day at our church in Boulder, CO. After Mass, we will go visit my mother-in-law at her assisted living facility, a mile from our house. My husband is an only child, and we have six children. We homeschool, and a big part of our lives is taking care of YiaYia (Greek word for grandmother). I call her daily, and we go to see her 2-3 times a week. She can't get out much any more; her mobility is seriously limited. She just finished 5 weeks at a nursing care/rehab facility, and we were so happy to move her back to her real home at the assisted living. It's a small, homelike place, and we are so grateful she has somewhere wonderful to live! We will take her some flowers and treats, and the children will play piano for her. After our visit, we'll return home, where the children and my husband will help me with planting! We are transitioning our garden from being literally hundreds of flowering plants to a more useful garden with fruits and veggies -- as well as flowers! We hope to get several berry bushes planted on 5/13. We'll enjoy a meal together, and have a perfectly wonderful day!

My mother lives in Florida (I am in Colorado) so this year I knew she was going on a cruise in April so I had Chocolate Covered Strawberries sent to her stateroom as an early Mother's Day gift.

Well, May is also my mother's birth month, so she already thinks May is all for her. ;) This year, I have bought a special present that is for her birthday AND Mother's Day. I will also be taking her out to eat. Before it's all said and done, I'll probably make her some jewelry also...

As a newly retired person, I try to spend as much time with my Mom as possible so every visit and phone call is special to us. We go on short excursions together and talk at least once every day. This year for Mother's Day my daughter and son have planned a Mom/Granny's day brunch out! Looking forward to this! Happy Mom's Day to all moms.

Living two states away from my mum makes it difficult at holidays so this year I decided to close the distance gap. I am going to make Lebanese food (our favorite!) and load up the car and drive up to her. I'll go to church with her (as she has requested!) and then we'll have our little feast. I have a special gift for her (I've gotten her hooked on Sheila's books :-). During the week following, I have made a list of things to do with her, included shopping and visiting a friend she wants to see. The best part, of course, will be just being with her on the special day and not having to visit over the phone! Happy Mother's Day!

Hydrangeas were mom's all time fave flowers. This year we are adding 2 more plants to the ever growing hydrangea garden. My youngest ( 12 years old ) has written a special poem about his Grandmom who he misses terribly even though she has been gone 6 years now. We then plan to go out to brunch and have a sparkiling grape juice toast in her honor - because without her I would not have met my fabulous husband nor would I have been blessed with my wonderful boys!

My son and I will have a nice dinner with mom. We live on the same piece of land, so I can help her as needed and have a lot of fun in the process! Happy Mother's Day to you Sheila!

My mom is gone after suffering from ovarian cancer but I was their for her and although had to make many sacrifices, she lived in Florida and I lived in NY I would do it over again just to be with her.
Their is not a day that goes by that we don't talk about her she will always be with her and on Mothers Day I celebrate her even though I am a mom
