In Honor of Ambrose the cat...

10/25/2011

We're going to have a cat-themed contest for my new release, THE NINE LIVES OF CHRISTMAS. Tell us, in twenty-five words or less, about the coolest cat you ever owned. (Ambrose says, "He'll have to be a pretty cool cat to compete with me." Ambrose has a fat head.) If you have the coolest cat of all we'll send you a Sheila holiday reading package, consisting of my three Christmas novels, ON STRIKE FOR CHRISTMAS, THE SNOW GLOBE, and THE NINE LIVES OF CHRISTMAS. Contest ends November 30th and we'll announce our winner on December 1st. Can hardly wait to hear about your awesome kitties!

Rodin, part Abyssinian had a rodent-like shape. Saved me and my family from a house fire 3 months before my wedding.

Our Gizmo is one cool Cat. He's a sleek, all black little goofus who has a good helping of Siamese in him, if you please. He was found as a tiny kitten on the side of one of our rural roads,17 years ago. Today, he is king of the roost on his human Dad's lap and knows he's special, just by the "prancing pony" walk he does. In his younger and less arthritic days, he would fetch rolled up pieces of paper and politely tuck them away for another day. He still reigns supreme with a large Siamese yowl to prove it!

I already have the book and it's wonderful! So my entry doesn't count but the coolest cat I ever had was Frosty, a solid white cat with a black patch on her head. She was cool because when I would sing her "her song," it was like she knew it was especially for her and she'd give me that loving look, purr loudly and rub herself against me...loved that cat...

My cat Amathea once attacked a bulldog to keep it away from my 3 year old brother. She was our second mother. :)

Stubby is so cool she immediately makes eye contact when called. If you don’t pet her, she reaches out and gives you a tap.

The coolest cat we ever owned was a 45 pound mutt who thought she was a cat. She would climb up on the table and curl up just like a cat - except that she took up most of the table.

The only cat I ever owned is Sassy the cat and she's my perfect writing companion. While I spend the hours typing she lays at my feet or sits in the chair behind me or walks across my desk on her way to the window to bother all the birds. It's a wonder I get any writing done at all. You can always visit her at the blog, http://dogsrulecatsdrool.wordpress.com

Bedtime—one Siamese, four kids. If any had a bad day, Pussmuss snoozed at foot of his bed; otherwise, in crib, keeping baby’s toes warm!

Bob the cat wanting to be a writer, me a writer never thought about being a cat. As I wrote Bob laid across my shoulders and flickered the keys with his paw when he didn't like a word or paragraph I wrote. With work deleted, time for revision.

I can't compete with Debi's cat who saved her from a fire so I'll just tell you my favorite cat's name was Pouncer because he liked to Pounce on things.

Our Devon Rex Cleo is by far the coolest cat ever!!! Because he's a Rex he has a short curly coat (he looks like he has a perm!) and giant ears - Friends think he looks more like a tiny alien than a cat! Two years ago Cleo lost one of his eyes due to a disease he was born with, and we were worried it would affect his personality and make it harder for him to get around, but he came back more peppy than ever, and sporting a great "winged brow" look over his little hollowed-out eye socket that adds to his quirky appeal and handsome features! He's still great at playing hide and seek (this cat will NOT give up when playing this game!) and he'll talk your ear off! I swear he has more spunk than ever. Best of all, he's such a sweet boy and a wonderful cuddler when I curl up with a good book. Our Cleo might look a little different from the other cats, but he's got a great big heart of gold!

Sheila ringing in here on a question someone asked. Sorry, but yes, you do need to own (or have owned) a cat to enter this particular contest. Ambrose insists on it. If this contest doesn't work for you, don't worry. Here at Sheila's place there is always another contest just around the corner.

My cat would come nuzzle my cheek when asked if he love me. He always responded to the question in the same manner.

The coolest cat I own is named Kenny Chesney named after the country music star. He was a stray until my mother found him and brought him to me. He climbs on the window when he wants in and when he wants to go out he rings a bell. He is the most loveable cat I have ever owned and so good natured.

We were moving and our cat was very ill after suffering a stroke. He loved the hill in the country where we lived and somehow the cat got out. After hours of searching we were forced to move without him. My mother in law still lived next door, so we frequently visited and looked for the cat. After many weeks we assumed poor Tater had gone off and died. Two years later we moved back into our house and the very first night in our home, who came home? Tater. He survived the illness that the vet said he wouldn't plus two years in hiding on his beloved hill, never once spotted by anyone. Of course we were thrilled to have him back.

We have four cats, Mulder, Scully, Samantha and Meowie. She had to have that name, but we did have a theme going here. They take turns sitting on me. Scully sleeps with the hubby and I.
Mulder and Scully protect the property from unwanted mice, birds and opossums. Its fun finding a dead one on the back deck. Mice and birds thery try to bring in the house, alive. We save them. Sammy is the beautiful one usually lays around looking pretty. Meowie, my poor baby has been in liver failure since last August.

My cat Lil Bit would swing in the babyswing. He would let me put shoes on him, dress him up, drink tea, and share pickles.

Sylvester was black and white like the cartoon Sylvester, at bed time he would turn off the ceiling light flicking the switch with his paw.

Rocky was abandoned. I adopted him and he travels back & forth from Ocean Shores with me. He is training a pit bull to behave. (this is difficult to do in 25 words or less, but I complied)

My cat Squeaky loved my granddaughters baby bottle nipples and pacifers. My daughter would have them in her purse or car seat. That cat would always go digging in her purse, steal it out of the car seat or if the baby dropped it. To this day he still looks for them when my daughter comes over and my granddaughter is now 11 yrs old. He is a funny cat.

King Bartholomew is his name. With his long, beautiful black hair, he can look a bit intimidating to other cats, but he really is a lover, not a fighter. And he would love to "hang" with Ambrose!

I've had my cat "Bunny" for over 10 years now. I helped coordinate his rescue from a tree when I was still living in an apartment in college. I said I would take him if they couldn't find someone to adopt him, and here we are 10+ years later. He was never declawed, and has amazing patience with my 2 young children. He has never scratched them in those times before they learned how not to handle a cat. He is a total lap cat and very affectionate. He is also still like a frisky kitten if there is a toy or string around.

Being a farm girl we had many great cats over the years. I'd have to say my favorite was "Scooter". He was a Tom cat who as a kitten "scooted" in the house everytime he could manage it. He had beautiful gold, orange and cream fur and was a great mouser (I assume - never saw any mice LOL).

My dad's boss's family owned a big farm and those cats were always pregnant so we always had our pick of cats as kids. =D (Back in the day BEFORE you thought to fix farm cats)

It’s easy to be cool stalking mice. But surrounded by pink? Simon loved hanging out in strollers, cribs, and playpens but still kept his cool.

The coolest cat I've had was Maggie.
She adopted our dog as her mother and emulated him, growling at the door when the doorbell rang.

Boo, my neighbor's rescue calico, kept touching my left arm with her paw, refusing to leave my side. Later that day I was diagnosed with cancer on that side... She comforted me with her healing touch! A metis, or healing cat as the Indians would say, she's one in a million.

My cat Kiki is a short-haired, black & white "tuxedo" style cat. He is very long - 29 inches from nose to tail (his tail is 10 of those inches) and also has traits of an Egyptian Mau and/or a Siamese. He is very talkative and protective. :)

The coolest cat we've owned and still own is Swiper who found us - literally showed up under our truck one day and has been ours ever since. She lets the kids carry her every where and push her in doll strollers and dress her up haha all without a fight! <3 her!

My very first cat after I left home was a huge grey tabby named Cassius after Cassius Clay. He checked out all my dates and would advise me with growls or purrs with his opinions. I married one of his picks and it's worked out very well.
