Happy Mother's Day!

5/6/2020

Picture
Mother's Day is right around the corner and, while the day may look very different this year for many of us I hope we can all find a way to honor our moms and those women who have been like a mother to us.
I think this pairing of chocolate and a good book (said she modestly) might make a nice belated present for Mom (or a reward for you for being such a good kid). All you have to do is post what you love about that important woman in your life. It may not be a mom. It may be a step-mom or a grandma or an aunt or a dear older friend. Here's your chance to pay tribute.
We'll pick a winner on the 30th and announce a winner on May 31st. So do remember to check back here. And check your spam box. Sadly, I often wind up there.
This is for U.S. residents, as I suspect even in the U.S. shipping will get a little pricey. (Apologies to my Canadian neighbors! and European friends!)

My mom passed away on Mother’s Day. We all said that she wanted us to always remember her....so there wasn’t a more appropriate day.

I lost my mother to Alzheimer's 17 years ago, a week before Mother's Day, and I just lost my Dad this past Easter Sunday morning (so this will be my first set of those special holidays without either of them to hug...) My mother was such a special woman and my bond with her has even grown since her passing...she was talented, artistic, kind, loving and I don't think I ever saw her without a smile on her face until Alzheimer's took even that smile away. I have her intricate cross stitch angels hanging on my walls, I use her best china as my every day dishes and not a day goes by without me being grateful for all the life lessons she gave me. She taught me to give back, to do for others things that make them happy, not just what I think will make them happy - it's about others and how you can help make their lives better. Her moral lessons have served me during this pandemic, as I have been making and giving away masks to anyone who needs them, and will continue to do so until I run out of fabric!!! I try to look at each day as a gift and make the most of it because of her.

My Mom loves to buy and read books. And I am often the lucky recipient when she finishes! But since she lives 560 miles away, I have to wait about 6 months for us to visit.

My mom is very giving and caring. She never wants to say or do anything to hurt anyone's feelings, and I know without a doubt I am truly loved by her.

I lost my mom December 19, 2016. I remember my last Mother's Day with my mom. She came to my residence where I had gifts for her & one of her favorite meals. That day was very special for both of us as I had only been out of long term care for just two weeks. My mom was my cheerleader and supporter the 6 years I was in long term care after bring struck down by a rare neurological disease. My mom believed in living & loving in the moment. My mom was a gracious southern lady with a beautiful smile that taught me & my 3 younger sisters how to be ladies to put others first, to help others and to love God. Attitude and living at the moment taught to me by my mom helped me to rehabilitate and go forward after her passing. I would like to share the book & candy with my sister's in honor of out mom. Sheila wishing you & all ladies a Happy Mothers Day.

My Mom is 95 and lives in a retirement community. I haven’t seen her since late February as her place is on lockdown. I speak to her every other day and she seems to be doing well even though there is sickness in her building but not her area. She is still a real trooper! (It helps that I sent her a big shipment of Ghirardelli chocolates!)

My mom has been gone for 24 years, but this was always her favorite time of the year Her birthday was May 4 so she got a double celebration and enjoyed every minute of both days. I am lucky that we have my 96 year old mother-in-law still with us and in really good health for her age. She is still an avid reader and avowed chocoholic. She loved the short trip to the Russell Stover/Whitman outlet store close to our home here in Florida

The most important woman in my life was my mother. She was 67 when she passed from ovarian cancer 10 years ago on May 2, 2010. She was a nurse and cared more about others than about her own health. She protected me and my brother by not disclosing the true nature of her illness. She fought valiantly for five months from the day of her diagnosis. It was so fast that I didn't have time to say goodbye to her and how much she meant to me. The last day I saw her, I remember watching TV with her and she asked me to leave because she was in pain and didn't want me to see her that way. I told her I loved her and would see her tomorrow, but that night she turned blue and was rushed to ICU. She never regained consciousness. She was and will always be my hero!!!

Both my Mom and Mother-in-law have passed. I’ve been without either one for several years. Thankfully I have an older sister that I can rely on for anything. Whether it’s a helping hand, a shopping partner, a secret keeper, a trip taker, lending an ear, advice, etc. She is a “mom”, a “grandma”, a Aunt, and the best sister ever!❤️

My mom has dropped everything to be at my side when my son had a medical emergency. She called my aunt to be with me until she could get there. She stayed with us the whole time my son was in the PICU. For two weeks she didn't leave my side so I had support. My husband was there but had our oldest son to care for. She moved closer during this past year. I am thankful that she is nearby and we can spend time together.

My mom and I have always shared a close bond ! I owe her for the person I am today . She has seen me through many storms and has always been the wind beneath my wings ! I feel very blessed to still have my 83 yr mom , though this Mother's Day will be the first time, we won't be able to be spend together because of the virus !
We'll get through this because of our Faith, Strong Family Ties and our Unconditional Love for One Another!

My Mom passed away in 2001 from congested heart failure. My father passed away when I was 11 in an accident so my mother raised my sister and I and we never lacked for anything. I don't know how she managed at she was a stay at home mom, but she was very frugal with her money. I miss her alot and I wish I had a chance to spend my time with her and have our long talks. Thanks for this amazing giveaway. Happy Mother's Day Shelia. Stay well and safe to you and your family.

My Mom was my first teacher and she always ha a book close at hand. I have been an avid reader ever since and currently serve on my town's library board. She would have liked to become a teacher bur marriage and two kids came first but even when she was working as an intake clerk for a social service agency she always had a drawerful of books to give out to the little ones who accompanied their parents to their often tedious and time-consuming interviews. I am proud that my own two sons are also readers - even in this digital age. A love passed on and on.

When my mom was alive I enjoyed spending time with her. We would always get together for Mother's Day to have dinner with the family. Every once in a while I would get to celebrate Mother's Day and my birthday which would be the same day. In 2 years I can do this again. I wish all the mothers out there a very Happy Mother's Day. Also Happy Mother's day to you Sheila. Thank you for this contest.

I have been lucky to have a great mom and her wonderful sisters to help me along the way. I have also found a co-worker (yes, Maryanne) that "adopted" me when I have my first full time job and showed me the ropes. Thanks to all the women that are there to help others.

My mom is my best friend. I look like her and act like her, but we don't actually share any DNA. My dad married my mom when I was 3 years old. She went from a mother of 2, with her youngest being 13, to a mother of 5. I have a twin brother and I also have a sister that is 3 years older than I am. My mom loved us as her own from the very beginning and I never realized just how hard it must have been for her, until I married someone who had 3 kids before we met. ❤

My mom is 89 and always thinks of others instead of herself. She's loves to read and crochet. Her eye sight isn't the best. But large print helps. She has a kind heart and always volunteered at funeral dinners and homeless shelters. She got me helping out too. ❤
