Always try to set some money aside for emergencies even if it's just spare change as that adds up. Thanks for the giveaway.

Always pay your credit card bills in full, and never charge more than you can afford.

With gas prices so high, it's better to fill your tank when purchasing gas, if you can. Especially in the summer the heat cases havoc on your reserves. Driving a little below the speed limit also helps conserve your gasoline and you get better mileage.

I throw my spare change in a jar. It's amazing how much I have collected in a year. That's my spending money for vacation.

When I use store coupons, I take the amount of money that I "saved" from using them and I put that same amount away to be used for some special occasion. The more coupons that I use, the more money that I get to match to save, so there is incentive. From time to time we buy tickets to a rather expensive play, or some other event that we might think twice about, and it is easy to do this each week and not feel that you are taking too much to put aside for a fun event. Even if you save only $5.00 a week in any and all stores that you shop, you end up saving almost $250 in your matching savings account and that is no "small change".

Hope you will try this.
Cynthia

Best way to double your money - fold it in half and stick it back in your pocket!

I have so many things I do. I always use a reward card if they offer it, I use coupons, I bargain shop, I will stand in the store and do the math to see which brand offers more for the money. I try to buy store brands a lot because they are cheaper. I try to get the most for my money whenever I shop. My biggest question is do we NEED it or do we WANT it. If we WANT it then chances are we are not buying it.

I have 3. 1) Never pay with a credit card, or if you have them, cut them up. Only pay with cash/debit card/check to pay for your purchases. That way you are only paying with what you have. You're not borrowing from anybody. If you don't have the funds in your account, you won't buy. 2) For an easy way to save extra money, every night check your dollar bills in your wallet. Take out either singles or a $5.00 bill and set it aside in your drawer for an emergency and if you don't see it, you won't spend it. 3) After every payday, move from your checking account extra money that you don't need and put it another account, say a fun account or a repair account, that way you will always have money around.

I do the bulk of my grocery shopping at stores with lower prices, like CostCo and WinCo, use coupons. I also try to route so that when I'm going to multiple stores, I can make it the shortest way.

If you have children, you can save a substantial amount of money by shopping at consignment sales. I typically buy at least 90% of my children's clothing, shoes, and sports gear at these events, plus toys/book/videos. You can often find like-new (or close to it) clothing for $2-$3 a piece. If you want first access to the best deals, sell your children's outgrown clothing at an event. This gets you a check in the mail, plus pre-sale access to the items other people are selling.
